The stone is an exquisite blue diamond weighing 42.92 carats and believed to be originated in Golconda mines, Andhra Pradesh, India. When found, the rough stone was massive in size and later it was shaped by Cartier, the renowned diamond cutter. This sparkling stone is the largest blue gem ever discovered and its current estimated value is more than $20 million.

Nature of the stone :

The marvelous stone is a fancy blue colored, pear shaped, internally flawless stone, weighing 42.92 carats. It is the world's second largest blue diamond. Being colored, it possess large quantity of scattered nitrogen atoms throughout the cubic structure of the stone, which absorbs the visible light from the blue end of the spectrum. The stone is free from plastic deformation, which implies its structurally perfect nature. Since it is colored with appropriate structure, it is grouped under Type I diamond. The Gemological Institute of America (G.I.A) rated and certified the color and grade of this stone.

History of the stone :

This diamond was originated in the Golconda mines, India, in the mid 16th century. The stone found its way to Tereshchenkos, the royal families of Russia, and rested with Cartier's in Paris, in 1917, four years before the Russian revolution. Cartier re-cut the diamond set as a center piece of a necklace, which comprises many small colored diamonds. This fabulous special setting ornament became the most versatile creation of 20th century. Later, in 1984 the diamond was put up for an auction at the ballroom of the hotel Richmond in Geneva, where the stone shared its space with other exquisite stones such as millennium star, Lesotho promise etc. Robert Mouawad, the great diamond dealer, CEO of Mouawad jewelers acquired the stone and named it as "Mouawad blue". The stone is still under his possession.
