Spirit of de Grisogono,
The spirit of de Grisogona is the world's largest black diamond discovered in the Central African Republic. When found, it was a huge diamond, weighing 587 carats, later transformed to 321.4 carats by Swizz diamond cutter, De Grisogona. The massive stone, named after its cutter, was set in a white gold ring consisting of 702 smaller white diamonds.
Fabulous characteristics of the stone :
It is a 321.4carats, black colored, mogul-cut stone. The black stone is extremely hard due to its polycrystalline, porous nature and believed to be formed from the larva of volcano. Usually, cutting of colored stone is difficult because the hardness is not equally spread throughout the stone, but exceptionally, this black stone is evenly surfaced. It is the sixth largest faceted black diamond in the world. The nitrogen atoms present inside the cubic structure of the stone absorbs visible light from the spectrum and impart black color to the stone. The facets of the stone sparkle tremendously, due to the skillful mogul-cutting of the master cutters. Due to its fantabulous nature, the black stones are often described as carbonados.
Setting of the diamond :
The diamond was earthed in Central African Republic and other information such as date of discovery and mine of origin is unknown. The 587 carats rough stone was purchased by Fatwa Grouse, a renowned Swiss jeweler. De Grisogona, the world famous diamond cutting specialist, employed mogul-cutting to cut the black diamond to its current size. The 321.4 carats, black stone was mounted on a white gold ring, which was studded with 702 exotic smaller white stones. This unusual jewelry setting was one of the most spectacular collections in the Fatwa Grouse's diamond jewelry manufacturing company. Later, the black diamond was sold to an anonymous buyer, for a huge sum of money; however, there is no written evidence for this.
