Glittering Stones
Premier Rose Diamond,

In 1978, the premier rose which is also called as "Big rose" was discovered in premier mine, South Africa. It is one of the rarest gems with massive weight of 353.9 carats. The diamond was named after Premier mine and Rose Mow, spouse of Jacob Mow, founder of renowned, Mow diamond cutting group. It is the 11th largest D-colored diamond in the world.

Features of elegant premier rose diamond :

It is a D-colored, pear shaped stone, weighing 137.02 carats with the highest degree of purity. Usually the nitrogenous impurities impart color to the stone and affect the clarity. This exotic stone is free from impurities such as nitrogen and boron; hence it is pure and colorless. This massive stone is categorized under type II diamond, owing to the chemically pure and structurally perfect nature. It is the 3rd largest pear-structured, D- colored diamond in the world. The stone was cleaved and polished into three parts, the big rose (137.02ct), little rose (31.48ct), and the baby rose (2.11ct). This sparkling stone is referred as "cleavage piece" since it does not possess a definite crystallographic structure. The plastic deformation during eruption phase in the kimberlitic process caused orthogonal inversions on one of the hexahedral faces of the stone, which resulted in crystallographic orientation. Due to its phenomenal qualities, it became the bench mark for pear cut diamonds.

History :

The diamond was earthed in premier mines, South Africa, in March 1978. When found, the rough diamond was in triangular shape, weighing 353.9 carats and referred as cleavage piece. The founder of Johannesburg Mow diamond cutting works, Jacob Mow, purchased the diamond from the owners of the premier mine. The skill full mater cutters of Mow diamond cutting company were involved in cutting and polishing of the rough stone. The diamond was sectioned by Franz swampier and cleaved by Sylvain Mow. In 1979, William Goldberg Corporation of New York acquired the stone by paying huge sum of 10 million US dollars and later sold it to an American diamond dealer. Later few hands change, the premier rose is currently adorning the treasure of Robert Moonward, the great collector and connoisseur of diamonds.
