Peridot is the gem quality variety if forsteritic olivine with chemical composition of (Mg, Fe) 2SiO4. It is one of the gemstone that occurs in one color i.e. olive green. It is the birthstone for the month of august and it has been collected from Pallasite meteorites. The oxford English dictionary suggests that the name refers to gem.
It occurrence is mostly found in north Carolina, Arizona, Hawaii, Nevada and new Mexico, US and Australia. High quality peridot is mined from eastern lava field of Saudi Arabia.
