The Museum of Arts and Design is located in Manhattan in New York, New York. It is a center for wide collections, preservations, study and display of contemporary hand made objects in variety of media including clay, glass, metal, fiber and wood. The jewelry collections began soon after the museum founded in 1956 documenting the development of studio jewelry from its origin. Nearly 500 jewelry pieces are included in the collections and it demonstrate the development and diversity of the art of jewelry ranging from the pioneering work of early American studio jewelers such as Sam Kramer and Arthur smith to the groundbreaking and nontraditional methods of contemporary artists. In addition to using signs, symbols, stories, legends and sociopolitical messages, the jewelry artist also includes images inspired by nature or human body.
