Millennium Star,
The Millennium star diamonds are a glittering wonder which has its origin in Congo. It was discovered at the Mabugi-Mayi district of Zaire, in 1990. This flawless precious stone adhere to highest degree of excellence and quality. Initially it was the magnificent 777 carat diamonds later it got transformed into 203.04 carat. The beautiful dimension of this diamond is given by the skillful master cutters. Nicky Oppenheimer the chairman of Dee-Beers unveiled this quality cut stone to the world market and named it as "Millennium star".
Characteristics :
It is a D-color, pear shaped diamond with internal and external flawless appearance. Millennium star is the 2nd largest D-color, faceted diamond in the world. This unusual blue diamond was the center piece in the De-Beers millennium diamond collection. It falls under the category of type I diamond. Usually these natural occurring substances have traces of impurities which contribute to its yellow shade. Among them commonest impurity is nitrogen. The 98% of all naturally occurring glittering stones comes under type-I category and the remaining falls under type-II which has traces of boron.
The ore material of this glorious gem is found underneath the earth surface. Plastic deformation technique is employed for the subsequent rise of this ore material. It is internally and externally flawless due to its chemically pure and structurally perfect property. Thus it can be undoubtedly stated that it is the purest of all naturally occurring pure diamonds. Even gemologist, who did research on gems and diamonds wonder the purity it posses.
Magical weight :
During the time of discovery it has the magnificent weight of 777 carat. It is commonly believed that magic number 777 is a good omen which brings good fortune. As a result, fortune seekers from various parts of the world rushed to Zaire with the intention of purchasing it. The De-Beers company legally got license for the fabrication of this diamond. The effective cutting of this glorious stone is done by Stein Metz group. It involved a number of master cutters. Stein Metz group had set up a designing room exclusively for cutting and polishing of this diamond. The design room was kept extremely dust free and resembles the surgical theatre in hospital.
The tangs that hold the diamond was made up of highly heat resistant material because during the cutting process an enormous amount of heat is emitted. Temperature had monitored, in order to ensure the proper quality. After the detailed structural study of the diamond; the team of skillful cutters cleaved this massive stone into three pieces. The process took around 4-5 months; the large piece is transformed into flawless, pear shaped millennium star and the remaining two pieces left unnamed.
Display of diamond :
The public display of this gorgeous stone was held at CSO's charter house street complex, in London. The publicized ceremony was organized by the top executives of De-Beers and Stein Metz group. The James bond film fame Sophie Marceau was invited for the display ceremony and she posed with the diamond for the photographs; which brought an extra attention to this diamonds.
