Semi Precious Stone Fluorite
Fluorite is also called as fluorspar .It is the mineral form of calcium fluoride, CaF2. It belongs to the halide minerals. It can be crystallizes in isometric cubic habit, moreover it is in octahedral shape and more complex isometric forms are not uncommon. Fluorite stone used in ornamental and lapidary . Fluorite is a colorful mineral, visible and ultraviolet light, fluorite is used as a flux for smelting, and in the production of certain glasses and enamels. The fluorite is the purest grades and source of fluoride for hydrofluoric acid manufacture, which is the intermediate source of most fluorine-containing fine chemicals. In the far-ultraviolet and mid-infrared range fluorite optics are used, conventional glasses are too absorbent for use. Hydrogen fluoride is a major source of Fluorite , a commodity chemical used to produce a wide range of materials. Hydrogen fluoride is liberated from the mineral by the action of concentrated sulfuric acid: CaF2(s) + H2SO4 → CaSO4(s) + 2 HF(g) The resulting HF is converted into fluorine, fluorocarbons, and diverse fluoride materials.
