Earth Star Diamond,
Earth star diamond is a 248.9 carats (49.8 g) pear shaped diamond found at the De Beers, Jagersfontein mine in South Africa on may 16th 1967. Earth star is a brown color diamond with extraordinary brilliance and it falls under the argyle color grading scale as “fancy cognac and C7 color grade”. According to the list of famous brown diamonds in the world, Earth star is the 3rd largest brown diamond in the world. The name earth star is derived from by the two unique character of the stone viz the strong brown color and its extraordinary brilliance. The owner of the diamond Mr. Joseph Baumgold of New York, name the diamond as the "Earth Star”. The stone is a Type IIa which is nitrogen free. It is exhibited with many notable diamonds in De Beers Hall of the mining museum in 1971.
