The flashy heliodor gemstone was discovered in Namibia, in 1913. The glittering stone belongs to the family of beryl and derives its name from a Greek word, meaning "Gift from the sun". The color of the gemstone varies from greenish yellow to pure yellow and the pure yellow heliodor is known as golden beryl. These flawless crystals are best known for its remarkable hardness and supreme clarity.

The transparent crystal has a hexagonal crystal system that attributes the tremendous hardness. The vitreous luster stone is available in wide range of colors that includes greenish yellow, golden yellow and brownish orange. Heliodor prone to double refraction and its refractive index ranges from 1.57-1.58. Occurrence of the stone:
The large deposits of the gemstone are found in granitic pegmatite, in the Ural Mountains. Brazil, Madagascar, Namibia, Nigeria and Sri Lanka, India and Zimbabwe are the great sources of the gemstones.
