The Danburite is the crystalline mineral similar to topaz. The chemical composition for the mineral is CaB2 (SiO4)2 and the Mohs hardness is 7 to 7.5 and the specific gravity is 3.0.
The mineral of danburite is orthorhombic crystal form and most
cases the appearance looks colorless like quartz. The exiting
colors of Danburite are yellow, yellowish brown, pink and its
first occurrence is found in Connecticut United States. It is
named for Danbury, Connecticut, United States where it was first
discovered in 1839 by Charles Upham Shephard.

The Danburite is a colorless stone that can be cut into wide range of shapes such as round, oval, pear, trillion and emerald. The extremely hard stone has poor cleavage and good toughness. The distinct feature of the exceptionally brilliant stone is that it possesses birefringence. The specific gravity of the prismatic stone is 2.80 and its refractive index varies from 1.627-1.641. The rare and expensive gem has vitreous luster and it is also known as "stone of joy and celebration".

The sparkling stone occurs in metamorphic, igneous rocks and granites that are associated with hydrothermal activity. The molten magma that are formed due to volcanic eruptions, significantly attribute to the formation of the stone.

Large deposits of danburite stone are found in Mexico, Japan, and Madagascar. Myanmar is today's most important source of quality gemstone.
