Semi Precious Stone Chrysocolla
Chrysocolla from Nevada, USA Chrysocolla (hydrated copper
silicate) is a normal
mineral, CuSiO3•nH2O. It is of secondary origin and also forms in
the oxidation zones of copper ore bodies. Associated minerals are normally
quartz, limonite, azurite, malachite, cuprites, and other secondary copper
minerals. Chrysocolla is an attractive blue-green colour
and is minor ore of its copper, having a hardness of 2.6 to 3.5.
It is usually also used as an ornamental gem
stone. It is typically found as glassy botryoidally and rounded
masses and crusts, or vein fillings.
